“Gormenghast”

We just closed our production of Gormenghast in Plainfield, NJ. I loved reading these books by Mervyn Peake (and one by his widow, Maeve Gilmore, depending on how you count) during quarantine, and immediately connected with the weird Gothic atmosphere and the feisty, introspective, idiosyncratic, daydreaming character of Fuchsia Groan. I related to her so much and was honored to both play her and direct the production, which utilized movement and combat choreography. I’d love to delve into this source material more in the future.
